Welcome to CubaInfo

In July 2006, illness forced Fidel Castro to cede power to his brother Raul. For the first time in 47 years, political power was no longer in the hands of Cuba's supreme revolutionary leader. The speculation was immediate; the anticipation palpable. Is dramatic change for Cuba looming on the horizon? What will a post-Fidel Cuba look like?
Developed by the Cuban Research Institute at Florida International University, CubaInfo provides current scholarly analysis of the unfolding situation in Cuba and the response of the diaspora to events on the island. Through thoughtful examination of these events, FIU seeks to educate the public about the nature of the historic changes occurring on the island, while contributing to an informed understanding of Cuba's possible futures.
