Alex Stepick is the director of the Immigration and Ethnicity Institute and a professor of Sociology and Anthropology at FIU. He has conducted research on the impact of immigration in Miami for the past 20 years. His coauthored book, City on the Edge, won the Robert Park Award for the best book in Urban Sociology and the Anthony Leeds Award for the best book in Urban Anthropology. Other works include Pride Against Prejudice: Haitians in the United States. Stepick received his B.A in Anthropology at the University of California at Santa Cruz and his Ph.D. in Social Sciences at the University of California Irvine.
